Color Theory & Intro to Acrylic Painting

Beginner-friendly, 3-week Acrylic painting class. Mondays at 1 pm.


Class Info

This is a beginner-friendly Acrylic painting class taught by Nadia Kossman. This class will take you through the basics of color theory and value in traditional painting. We will study light and shadow in order to depict scenes with contrast and sensitivity. It is a good introduction for those who want to acquire a strong foundation for painting. The goals for this class are to allow students to master basic color theory and to create a working knowledge of value and saturation levels. The first class will focus on color mixing and black and white studies, the second class will work with different levels of saturation, and the last class will focus on completing an original painting in color. $150 All materials will be provided for the students! Just bring yourselves, and a sketchbook if possible. The following materials list is recommended for the optional homework assignments: -one small round brush (size 2, 6) -one medium flat or filbert brush (6, 8, 10) -one large flat or filbert brush (10, 16, 24) Acrylic paint colors (Nadia recommends Liquitex): -mars black -titanium white -alizarin crimson -yellow ochre -ultramarine blue -variations on green, orange, and purple (optional) -canvas paper pad 9 x 12 in -washable palette or palette paper pad Syllabus: Day 1: -color mixing -value scale -homework (optional): small black and white master copy Day 2: -homework critique -master copy saturation practice (3 versions) -homework (optional): collect references, start drawing for original color painting (still life, landscape, figure, etc) Day 3: -warm-up: black and white full-page master copy -full-page color painting (if started for homework, more development is allowed for) Check out Nadia's work at: nadiakossman.com Instagram: @tooontownz
